Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng said the victory against Japanese invaders is a glory for the entire Chinese nation and that the nation must improve solidarity.[Special coverage]
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at a forum attended by representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other overseas regions to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
Yu said the victory against Japanese invaders is a triumph for the entire nation, including compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese.
It is also a victory for the national united front against the Japanese invasion, Yu said.
The top political advisor hailed all forms participation and support for compatriots from outside the mainland and overseas Chinese in the war, stressing the fact that all Chinese integrated into a community of common destiny that earned the nation the victory.
To commemorate the war anniversary is not to perpetuate hatred but to take lessons from history and find inspiration for the Chinese nation's development, he said.
He called for greater solidarity throughout the Chinese nation, with more understanding and an inclusive mindset to help realize national reunification.
He also stressed that China must safeguard peace and will join peace-loving people from around the world to maintain peace and promote development of the world.
Wednesday's forum was presided over by Sun Chunlan, head of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
