The first museum to display China's sovereignty over Diaoyu Island was opened on Monday on Liugong Island in Weihai, East China's Shandong Province.
The museum was approved by the central government as a part of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Currently, the majority of displays on show are pictures but the local management committee said multimedia and films would also be added in the future. The State Oceanic Administration is planning to make the museum a permanent establishment.
Exhibitions with a similar theme were previously held in other provinces such as Fujian and Zhejiang.
