A grand ceremony kicked off Tuesday in front of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the region's founding.[Special coverage]
Top Chinese political advisor Yu Zhengsheng will deliver a keynote speech at the ceremony.
The Tibet Autonomous Region was founded on Sept. 1, 1965, after the establishment of the regional People's Congress, the local legislature, through elections.
