The Qinhuai District People's Procuratorate in Nanjng, Jiangsu Province on Thursday revealed more details of the mental condition of the BMW driver who was involved in a deadly hit-and-run in June, after the forensic examination announced earlier provoked wide public criticisms.
The local procuratorate said on Thursday on its official Weibo account that the 35-year-old BMW driver, Wang Jijin, who sped through a red light in Nanjing's Qinhuai district on the afternoon of June 20, hitting a Mazda sedan, a bus and a taxi and killed two people on spot, had called the police two hours before the accident, saying that someone wanted to murder him.
Also, a relative said Wang had told them that he was being followed by somebody a day before the accident, adding that his behavior was uncontrollable on the day the accident happened, the statement said. In addition, the public security organizations said Wang' behavior was strange when he was arrested and he was unable to talk normally with others.
He was given a forensic examination in July and on August 31, the Nanjing Brain Hospital confirmed that Wang was suffering from acute temporary mental disorder and had limited criminal responsibility.
The announcement has caused wide public criticism, amid claims the authorities are sheltering Wang.
