China, the United States and Iran on Monday reached broad consensus over the modification of Tehran's Arak nuclear reactor, one of the West's main concerns, according to a press release by a Chinese nuclear delegation.

Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority Xu Dazhe met with Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and Ernest Jeffrey Moniz, U.S. secretary of energy on the sidelines of a conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

China, together with other major powers, would engage in the technical work in the modification of the reactor, which the West worries could produce plutonium for a nuclear bomb.

Iran agreed to modify the reactor in the historic deal reached with related world powers in July, which put an end to the decade-long disputes over the country's controversial nuclear program.
