The Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning announced on September 14 that in the future, no more beds will be added in public hospitals located within the Fifth Ring Road, the Beijing Daily reported.
According to Wang Laiying, an official with the commission, 230 million people go to hospitals in Beijing each year and 3 million people are hospitalized yearly.
Most of them crowd in public hospitals in the downtown area. The new policy is a measure to further reallocate medical resources in Beijing by relieving the huge pressure hospitals face in the downtown area.
In the future, about 4,000 beds will be taken from these hospitals and added to hospitals in Tiantongyuan, Huilongguan and Yizhuang areas.
