Wang Tianpu, former general manager of oil giant China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for corruption and other violations of the Party code of conduct.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) launched an investigation into Wang in April and found he abused his power to seek promotion, the CCDI said in a statement on Friday.

It accused him of violating CPC rules by accepting money and seeking profits for his relatives' businesses by taking advantage of his position. Wang continued to indulge his relatives even after warnings from authorities, according to the statement.

He also flouted the CPC's frugality code by using public funds to hold personal banquets and embezzling public money, the CCDI said, adding that he also accepted bribes.

Wang's illegal gains have been seized, the statement said.

Also on Friday, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced it has decided to arrest Wang and investigate him for suspected bribe-taking.

The investigation is under way, according to a SPP statement.

The CCDI announced an investigation into the 53-year-old in April.
