Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when attending a event in Beijing marking the national popular science day, which falls on the third weekend of September.
In a bid to nurture creativity of the country, more effort should be made to raise people's awareness of science and engagement of science and technology, especially among young people, Liu said.
He called on schools and parents to encourage young people's aspiration about science.
Promising that the government will allocate more resources and provide preferential policies in this aspect, Liu urged scientists, media and sci-fic writers to actively engage in awareness campaigns.
