Australia Plus used social media to track down three Australian men, five years to the day after they helped a woman in a wheelchair achieve her lifelong dream of climbing the Great Wall of China.
Judy Li (the woman in the photo below) contacted ABC International, and told us how she had been carried up the Great Wall of China by three Australian men five years ago. Ever since that day, she has wanted to say thank you, but she had no idea who these men were.
So, we decided to help Judy find them - using the power of social media! Earlier this week, we posted this photo and asked people whether they knew the men in the picture.
Aside from ABC International, a number of ABC Local Radio stations also posted the photo to their Facebook pages.
Success came when ThermoBlitz (a Facebook page about cooking) shared the post, and a person named Robin commented saying she knew all three men! According to Robin, they are all opthamologists.
After we found out their names, we were able to find their contact details and get in touch! So far, we've been able to speak to Dr Kimberley Tan (who is pictured second-from-right in the photo). He says "anyone would have done the same thing".
Dr Tan also says he is amazed that we were able to find him on social media, since he doesn't even have a Facebook account.
We've also been in touch with Judy, who says she is very happy to finally know who these men are, and will contact them very soon to say a long-awaited thank you.
Judy also told us that she is planning to participate in the Hong Kong Standard Chartered Marathonin her wheelchair, in January 2016. She says she wants to visit Australia after the event, and is hoping to thank all three men in person.
We shared the good news on Weibo, the Chinese social networking platform, as well as to our Australia Plus Chinese Facebook page.
