China Islamic Association on Wednesday held a gathering attended by Vice Premier Liu Yandong to mark the Corban Festival.

Corban, or Eid al-Adha, the feast of the sacrifice, is an Islamic festival when lambs, goats and cattle are ritually slaughtered to feed to the hungry.

Liu and Sun Chunlan, both members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the event.

"Islam is a religion that loves the motherland and peace. Chinese Muslims once shed blood and sacrificed their lives to protect our motherland and fight against foreign invaders," said Chen Guangyuan, chairman of the association.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War.

Extending greetings to Muslims nationwide and across the world, Chen vowed that Chinese Muslims would stick to the correct path and make contributions to an all-round well-off society and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
