India has appointed new envoys to China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Britain and the United Nations, in a major rejig at the External Affairs Ministry.
Vijay Gokhale, India's envoy in Germany, has been named as the new ambassador to China. He will take over from incumbent Ashok Kantha in Beijing, sources said Friday.
India's envoy in Bhutan Gautam Bambawale will take over as the next Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan from TCA Raghavan when he retires in December this year.
Harsh V Shringla, Indian Ambassador to Thailand, has been named as the new Bangladesh envoy, while Navtej Sarna will replace Indian High Commissioner to the UK Ranjan Mathai, the sources said.
Indian Ambassador to Mexico Sujan Chinoy has been named as the new envoy in Japan. He will replace incumbent Deepa Wadhwa, the sources said.
The country's former External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin, has been selected as the next Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations.
