Didi Kuaidi, an Uber-like service in China, is granted a license for on-line private car-booking platform from Shanghai Transport Commission on October 8, 2015. The issuance marks Didi Kuaidi as the world's first legally legitimate ride-hailing app provider.
Sun Jianping, director of Shanghai Transport Commission, addressed the issue, saying, "This is a very innovative attempt in Shanghai. We are looking for a new path in ride-hailing service."
An anonymous official from Ministry of Transport has confirmed with thepaper.cn that a regulation on private car-booking service is under way. News conference will be held by the time it is issued.
Uber, a similar service from the U.S., is also seeking for legal legitimacy in China, the result remains to be seen.
