A Chinese mainland tourist died at a Hong Kong hospital on Tuesday morning after he was allegedly beaten unconscious by a gang of four men on Monday while mediating in a shopping dispute.
The 54-year-old man was certified dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 10:45 a.m. local time, police said, classifying the case as manslaughter and fighting in a public place.
The tour group was taken to a jewellery shop in Man Lok Street, Hung Hom, for shopping on Monday. A dispute erupted afterwards when two women aged 32 and 53 were fighting over shopping affairs.
The victim tried to mediate but was attacked by others.
Upon investigation, police arrested four people, including two women aged 32 and 53 for fighting in a public place, and two men aged 44 and 32 for wounding.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death, police said.
