To prepare for a baby boom next year, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital has expanded their hospital by adding 34 beds for newborns, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
According to Yan Songbiao, present of the hospital, there are a total 512 hospital beds for labor delivers, and the number of births this year has already surpassed 17,250.
Yan said that Beijing's first, secondary and tertiary class hospitals only have 4,440 beds for new mothers, but most of the city's pregnant women flood into these hospitals, making the medical resources there limited.
