The Second Beijing Photo Biennial hosted by the CAFA Art Museum will showcase an Unfamiliar Asia until November 29 with a group of exhibitions as well as academic seminars and lectures.
Opening with a symposium themed Asian Wisdom, the second biennial aims to present the ways in which photography has become an effective vehicle to look at the real Asia.
The themed exhibition is organized by a team of international curators including Yuko Hasegawa, chief curator of the Museum of Contempoaray Art, Tokyo, Nili Goren from Israel who has curated over 30 international exhibitions and Wang Chunchen, a professor at CAFA.
According to the curator statement, the exhibition will examine Asia through the lens of photography.
"After further contemplation of the continent, we will present this newly-discovered Asia and its beautiful prospects for the future," the statement said.
The exhibition consists of four sections: interior-other, conflict-boundary, space-existence, and culture-dimension, and will feature international artists like Phil Collins from UK, Won Seoung-won from Korea and Japanese artist Takashi Homma.
Other Beijing art community landmarks like the 798 Art Zone and Caochangdi will host exhibitions for the biennial.
