The Chinese mainland tourist who was beaten in a shopping dispute may die from heart attack according to his preliminary autopsy report, a source from the Hong Kong government told Xinhua on Friday.
Further examinations and investigations are needed to conclude the cause of his death, the source said.
The postmortem examination was conducted in the morning of Friday.
Miao Chunqi, 54, died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei on Tuesday morning, a day after the alleged incident at a jewellery shop in which he tried to mediate in a shopping dispute, was dragged out of the store and beaten unconscious by a group of men.
A Chinese mainland tour escort and a Hong Kong tour guide on Thursday appeared before Kowloon City Magistrates' Court for a joint charge of manslaughter, the case was adjourned to December 22.
Hong Kong police have launched an investigation into the local travel agency which hosted Miao and his tour group from neighboring Shenzhen city.
