Nearly a month ago, a traffic light for a busy crossroad in Shijiazhuang, provincial capital of North China's Hebei province, broke down. Frequent accidents happens almost every day since then.
Liu Yikun and Chen Liwei, two young men working nearby, have come up with an idea. On October 26, 2015, they created a makeshift traffic lights with foam boards and planted them at the center of the crossroad. Of course, the two of them had to be there to coordinate traffic.
"One, two, three, Right!...One, two, three, Left!" This was how their traffic lights worked. The two young men were enveloped in the foam boards, in which they switched position every 30 seconds. Together with their hand gestures, the traffic was eventually back to smooth.
At around noon, they decided to take a lunch break, so as to better prepare for their afternoon shift.
"We'll have to figure out what should really be done for the upcoming days," Liu said to Chen.
Their action has won them thumbs-up from drivers and pedestrians.
