The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held a reception for new commissioner Ye Dabo on Thursday at the Macao Tower.

In the opening address, Ye Dabo noted that the external exchanges of Macao meet new opportunities as China's international status has improved than ever before.

Over the past 16 years, the office of the commissioner has made a modest contribution to Macao's continued development and to the protection of lawful rights of fellow Macaoers by implementing "one country, two systems" and handling the affairs in accordance with the law, Ye said.

Serving as the new commissioner, Ye promised to actively support Macao SAR government's administration according to law and firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and interests to serve the development of the region, and to support Macao in expanding external exchanges and cooperation.

Chui Sai On, chief executive of Macao SAR government welcome Ye on taking over the position, saying that the "Belt and Road" initiative promoted by the central government has been widely recognized by the international community and will boost Macao's cooperation with other countries.

The SAR government hopes to take advantage of Macao's system benefit to make contribution to the country by continuously integrating with the national diplomatic strategy, actively participating in and expanding the scope of external exchanges, Chui added.

Ye replaced Hu Zhengyue, who had served as the commissioner in the Macao SAR since 2011.
