Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court has recently accepted a case involving a Malaysian man who is accused of stealing 11 high-end watches with an imitation pistol at Wangfujing Dongjie in Dongcheng district, the Beijing Morning Post reported Tuesday.

His lawyer said that his family has a history of mental illness and he has applied for a psychiatric evaluation.

The suspect Moi Kit Leng snatched the Cartier watches worth about 3.19 million yuan ($503,382) in total at night on March 16. He was later captured by local police when he was fleeing the scene in a taxi.

The report said the man has been living in Beijing for 10 years, but lost his job in August 2014. He claimed that his son became ill, so he had planned to return to Malaysia with the money to be with his wife.
