China hopes Nepal will restore its stability soon for the good of post-earthquake reconstruction and long-term development, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

One Indian national has been killed during a scuffle between local police and the Madhesi protesters at Birgunj, Nepal's bordering city with India on Monday, according to Nepalese police officials.

The Madhesi parties have launched a movement in the Terai region expressing dissatisfaction on the demarcation of seven federal provinces adopted in the new constitution of Nepal on Sept. 20 this year.

Several rounds of talks between the Nepali government and agitating Madhesi parties over the past month have not yielded any positive results toward ending protests in the Terai region. .

"We are closely watching the situation in Nepal," spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.

Hua said China hopes that the Nepalese government and relevant parties will resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation to safeguard national unity, social stability and fundamental interests of the people.
