Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for more communication between China and the United States to properly manage their relations in his meeting with House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in Beijing on Friday.

It is normal for the two countries, with different history, culture, social system and development stage, to have different view or even dispute some issues, but they share more mutual interest than disputes, Li said.

The two countries should properly manage the general orientation of the bilateral ties, respect and treat each other with equity, expand common interest, promote substantial cooperation, increase cultural and people-to-people exchanges, strengthen communication and coordination on international issues, and constructively control their disputes through dialogue and consultation, he noted.

Li added that a long-term stable and sound development of the China-U.S. relations is not only beneficial to the two countries, but also a contribution for world peace, stability and development.

With regard to parliamentary exchanges, Li said the legislative bodies play an important role in the two countries' politics and bilateral relations. China attaches great importance to parliamentary exchanges and cooperation with the United States and hopes the two sides can increase exchanges and promote mutual understanding to create a favorable condition for a healthy and stable development of the China-U.S. relations.

Pelosi and her delegates spoke highly of China's development, especially in poverty reduction, as well as the two countries' cooperation in areas including climate change, cyber security and international and regional issues.

She said the United States is ready to strengthen contact with China in a friendly and candid way to enhance mutual understanding and consensus.

Li also called on the two sides to strengthen cooperation on clean energy and energy conservation to jointly cope with climate change.

He said China will take various measures to reduce energy consumption and develop clean energy.
