As part of its content strategy for 2016, Chinese streaming site Sohu TV will continue introducing popular South Korean and American TV shows as well as its own self-produced series, Sohu TV CEO Zhang Chaoyang said at the company's annual promotion meeting in Beijing on Thursday.
Sohu TV has signed a three-year long contract with South Korean station KBS for its dramas. Additionally, next year Sohu TV will debut new American TV series such as superhero show Legends of Tomorrow, Containment and Quantico, as well as the latest seasons of popular shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Last Ship, Fargo and Gotham. Talk shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and comedy show Saturday Night Live will continue to be exclusively streamed on the site.
Talking about the ongoing exclusive streaming drama Wu Xin: The Monster Killer, Zhang said that streaming, which used to depend on broadcast stations for content, has now become independent, with many series easily earning more than a billion views. Zhang said that Sohu TV will launch the second seasons of its self-produced dramas such as Wu Xin in 2016.
With the success of Sohu TV's film Jian Bing Man, developed from the site's minidrama Diors Man, Sohu TV will also be adapting its shows such as Falling Down into movie versions.
