A new campus for the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana, built by a Chinese company, was inaugurated on Thursday.
The campus for the School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences of the university is located in Ho, some 138 km from the capital, Accra.
It was constructed by Yanjian Group with the Chinese government through its development agency China Aid providing 17 million U.S. dollars and the Ghanaian government funding some 940,000 U.S. dollars.
There are altogether 11 structures and parking lots, basketball courts, roads and other facilities.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama attended the inauguration ceremony.
President Mahama extended the appreciation of Ghanaians to the Chinese government for the support saying the project cements the relationship that has always existed between the two countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong, said the campus set up another landmark which reflects the friendly relations between peoples of the two countries.
She said at the request of the Ghanaian side, the Chinese government would provide furniture and other appliances to further improve the hardware of the university.
Minister for Education, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, said the inauguration of the new campus marks another milestone in the delivery of good-quality education to Ghanaians.
The university, which started with 155 students in 2012, now has 2,044 students. It has been certified by the World Health Organization as an institution leading the Ebola vaccine trials in Ghana.
