The publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday urged the media of BRICS countries to cooperate and deliver a common voice to protect fairness and justice in the world.
Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during his speech at the first BRICS Media Summit that opened in Beijing on Tuesday morning.
"The majority of countries share the vision to establish international institutions, abide by international rules and seek international justice," Liu said, adding that BRICS countries are protectors of international rules and justice.
The media of BRICS countries should promote the ideas of peaceful development, cooperation and win-win, Liu said, calling for better coordination in fighting terrorism, eliminating poverty and hunger, and addressing climate change.
"Voices for justice and rationality should be amplified and the voices of emerging and developing countries should be strengthened, so as to make global governance fairer and more reasonable," he said.
Liu also called on media groups from BRICS countries to exhibit economic development and social progress in their countries and show the world their countries' confidence in cooperation and development.
He proposed more innovation in media development and greater efforts to enhance communication and consolidate the foundation of BRICS cooperation.
He said media organizations of the BRICS countries should always stick to the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win, and step up regular exchanges and cooperation.
Noting that BRICS are an important force in international relations and active builders of the international system, Liu said the Chinese government is willing to strengthen coordination and collaboration with other BRICS partners, to inject extra life into the BRICS mechanism and set the BRICS partnership as an exemplary model for the new type of international relations which takes cooperation and win-win at its core.
