PizzaExpress recently introduced its new autumn/winter menu, including fruity smoothies and warming flower tea. The British chain opened its first store in the Chinese mainland in May 2014 at Taikooli, Sanlitun. It is now one of the trendiest places to have pizza and afternoon snacks. The restaurant encourages Christmas gatherings by offering a free bottle of wine to groups with 10 or more diners until the end of January. Call 010-6417-6698 to learn more.

Refined afternoon tea has been one of the famous traditions at the ultimate luxury hotel, the St. Regis. In the late 19th century, Caroline Astor, mother of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, elevated afternoon tea to a new level by introducing the ritual at dignified gatherings at her house in Manhattan.

Today, this ritual is celebrated every afternoon at every St. Regis around the world, and you can find it at the St. Regis Beijing at 288 yuan ($45), with a wide choice of refined teas selected by its professional tea sommelier, and the finest sandwiches and scones.
