China is ready to play a constructive role in improving Afghanistan-Pakistan ties and promoting reconciliation in Afghanistan, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed on Monday to jointly promote the Afghan peace process with "legitimate political actors" and take action against those who refuse to join the reconciliation process.
The understanding was reached at a meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sideline of the Climate Change Conference in Paris.
"We have noticed relative reports," spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a daily press conference, adding that as a common friend of Afghanistan and Pakistan, China is happy to see the improvement in their relationships.
We sincerely hope the two countries will strengthen mutual trust and maintain peace and development in the region, Hua said.
