New Zealand's national orchestra is in line for an illustrious U.S. music industry Grammy Award for its recording of works by two renowned Chinese composers.
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) said Tuesday it had been nominated for the award for Best Orchestral Performance for its recording of works by Zhou Long and the Symphony "Humen 1839," written in collaboration with compatriot Chen Yi.
Singaporean Darrell Ang conducted the recording, which was released on the Naxos label.
"The works are exciting and colorful and provide many opportunities for the orchestra to display its affinity with contemporary music from the Asia-Pacific region," NZSO chief executive Christopher Blake said in a statement.
"This is one of many international collaborations and projects the NZSO has been involved in over the past few years."
Other nominees for the award -- to be decided next year -- were the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Boston Symphony Orchestra and The Oregon Symphony.
