Outdoor jobs: What the workers say

After the red alert was issued yesterday, the company issued us breathing masks and protective cream. But the working hours haven't changed much. We still have to work from 7 am to 9 pm.

Kong Zhiqiang, 21, food deliveryman

We did receive breathing masks and a warning text message from the company, but since we are doing promotion for our products, there is no way we can sell things to people with this mask on.

Zhao Yue, 26, marketing department at Hengda Group

The odd-even car ban does not apply to us. I actually have had more customers this morning, and the traffic was not as bad as it used to be. So I reckon the ban does work in some way.

Xu Lifeng, 51, taxi driver

The odd-even ban does ease the burden of my job, as there have been fewer vehicles on the road since this morning. The breathing mask I'm wearing is actually issued by the department, and there are also some warning text messages on the air pollution.

Lu Liancang, 50, road cleaner

The breathing mask is mine. We haven't received anything from the department, not even a breathing mask or a warning message. But the work is easier, as there are fewer cars today.

Zhao Hongna, 40, parking lot inspector
