China will continue to promote international standards in building smart cities and improve the competiveness of its related industries in global market, said an official. [Special coverage]
Tian Shihong, head of the Standardization Administration of China, said that China has made great achievements in establishment, implementation and international cooperation in acknowledging standards of smart cities.
The remarks were made during the Second World Internet Conference taking place in the picturesque water town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, Dec 16 to 18.
Tian said that China's Standardization Administration has joined hands with National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in establishing and implementing standards for smart cities.
He said his administration, together with Office of the General Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs and National development and Reform Commission, has set up a framework of indicators on smart cities covering construction, livability, administration, service, industries, economy, security and insurance.
By 2020, China will establish 50 national standards on smart cities and start pilot projects in 20 cities, he said.
When building smart cities, the country will adhere to the ISO 37120, which defines and establishes methodologies for a set of indicators to steer and measure the performance of city services and quality of life, Tian said.
