A lab explosion in Tsinghua University which killed one postdoctoral researcher on Friday was believed to have happened during a hydrogen experiment, the Beijing work safety authority said on Saturday.
The blast occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on the second floor of a chemistry building in Tsinghua, when the student, Meng Xiangjian, was conducting a hydrogen chemical test alone.
Meng was found dead at the scene by rescuers.
An initial investigation showed that the blast took place during Meng's experiment.
