One runner collapsed during the Fuzhou International Marathon in southeast China and died of apparent heart attacks on Sunday.
The organizers said in a statement that the over-40-year-old runner surnamed Lu collapsed about 10 kilometers into the half marathon race on Sunday morning and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The organizers are "deeply saddened by the tragic death," said the statement.
Ethiopian runners swept the men's and women's full marathon titles.
Gurara Muleta Neda clocked two hours, 15 minutes and 39 seconds to win the men's race while Deme Meseret Eshetu claimed the women's title in 2:39.03.
