V-Day Military Parade
On September 3, China staged a grand military parade in Beijing to commemorate the 70th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression during World War II.
Twenty-seven armament and 17 formations of foreign troops rumbled by Tiananmen Square. More than 10,000 military personnel and over 300 veterans and their descendants took part in the event. Fifty-one female guards of honor from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) also made their debut. More than 20 military helicopters forming the number 70 and seven fighter jets roared past overhead.
Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech before inspecting the troops, reassuring the world that China would remain committed to peaceful development. Xi also announced that the country will cut the number of its troops by 300,000.
World leaders at the parade included Russian President Vladmir Putin, Republic of Korea President Park Geun-hye, Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and leaders from nearly 30 other countries.
