About 33.3 million train trips are expected to be made during the New Year traffic rush from Thursday to Sunday, up 12.3 percent from the same period last year.
Travel will peak on Jan. 1 with an expected flow of 9.2 million passengers, up 11 percent year on year, the railway authority said on Thursday.
About 8.4 million passengers are expected to travel on Thursday, up 14.3 percent year on year.
China now has 19,000 kilometers of high-speed rail (HSR) with a newly completed HSR track in the southern province of Hainan.
More than 9,000 kilometers of new track was put into operation in 2015, above the annual target of 8,000 kilometers, according to China Railway Corp.
