Chinese publicity officials must toe the Party line to better serve the nation's drive of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said at a national meeting for such officials on Tuesday.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged personnel promoting CPC policies to "stick to the right political direction," conform to the ideology of the CPC Central Committee and strictly observe the Party's rules and regulations.
"CPC committees at all levels must enhance their instructions to publicity organs and media, strengthen management of publicity cadres and promote party building in publicity work, and anyone or any committee that fails to fulfill those duties will be punished," he said.
Publicity officials should also focus on ensuring stories about China are told and Chinese voices are heard abroad, said Liu Qibao, head of the CPC Central Committee's publicity department, who chaired the meeting.
It was attended by vice premier Liu Yandong.
