Nutritionists believe that what is good for the heart is also good for the brain and proper diet plays a significant role in enhancing and protecting the brain, including against Alzheimer's disease.
Blueberries, a superfood rich in antioxidants, often come as the priority choice for nutritionists to make a suggestion. They can help reduce oxidative stress on the brain. "Eat strawberries and blueberries at least twice a week", said Jennifer McDaniel, a registered dietitian nutritionist based in St. Louis.
Nuts and whole grains are also universally recognized by nutritionists as the foods that help fuel the brain. Nuts are recommended at least five times a week and whole grains three servings per week.
Unsweetened cocoa is specially proposed by McDaniel while other nutritionists simply refer to it as "coffee". "Unsweetened cocoa has been shown to increase activity in the brain related to memory," McDaniel said.
