Former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo vows to help his current club Tianjin Quanjian, a Chinese second division team, to top in Asian soccer in the coming years and leave Chinese soccer a legacy with his professional manager team.
Luxemburgo, who was signed as the manager of Quanjian last September, is now leading the pre-season training of his team in a luxury resort hotel at the suburbs of Brazil largest city Sao Paulo. It' s the first time for him to take over Quanjian and on Thursday he presented his manager team and players in front of several Brazilian media organizations.
Though Quanjian is only a Chinese second division club, its signings of former Brazil internationals Luis Fabiano and Jadson in the past month has put them under the highlight of Brazilian media.
Luxembourg said at the press conference that he refused proposals from China's first division clubs as he was attracted by the long-term project in Quanjian, which was acquired by a Chinese billionaire last year. He emphasized that going to China is not just for money.
According to the club, Quanjian will aim to enter China' s top soccer league this year and in the near future it will claim the titles of Chinese league and Asian champions league before eventually shining at the FIFA World Club Cup.
"I'll leave a legacy as we will bring in our 'know-how' to the Chinese team. Our excellent manager team with nutritionist, physiotherapist and any other professionals needed in a soccer team will help them to be a better team," said a confident Luxemburgo.
"China's soccer is improving, but is still with many complicated. I have been familiar with Chinese soccer league because my team member has searched numerous related information for us."
Quanjian will stay in Sao Paulo until February 3, when they return to China for a short period of rest before finalizing the pre-season preparation in South Korea. The team starts the race in the Chinese second division on 17 March.
