A H5N6 virus infected mother gave birth to a healthy child in the city of Zhaoqing in south China's Guangdong Province, according to a local hospital.
The 40-year-old mother was diagnosed with H5N6 avian flu in the city's Zhaoqing No.1 hospital when she was 35 weeks pregnant.
She gave birth to a healthy child on Dec. 29, 2015 and is still in critical condition due to a cesarean section and lung infection, said Zhong Jiali, spokesperson of the hospital on Sunday.
Doctors have asked all close contacts of the woman to take Tamiflu, an anti-viral drug for flu, as a preventive measure.
