Chinese people exhibit a growing trend toward earlier first sexual experiences and later marriage, with people born after 1995 found to first have sex at age 17.71 on average, a recent survey found.
According to survey results issued Sunday by marriage service provider baihe.com and the Institute of Social Science Surveys at Peking University, 63.29 percent of male respondents and 83.07 percent of females chose to marry later than the government-defined late marriage age, which is 23 for women and 25 for men, news site thepaper.cn reported.
The survey found that among the 74,000 respondents surveyed across China, most married between the ages of 22 and 28, especially in big cities. In Tibet Autonomous Region, the average marriage age was over 32, the oldest average age.
Young people were found to be more sexually active. The average age when most respondents born after 1995 had their first date was 12.67, seven years younger than their counterparts who were born before 1985. Moreover, the average age for the youngest generation's first sexual experience was 17.71, two years younger than the average for people born after 1990, according to the survey.
