"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," ruled the box office in the week ending Jan. 10, earning 344.3 million yuan (52.3 million U.S. dollars) after opening on Jan. 9.
Domestic thriller "Detective Chinatown" was a respectable No. 2 in the week, pulling in 207.9 million yuan, China Film News reported on Sunday. The film opened on Dec. 31.
"Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" came in third, earning 134.4 million yuan after opening on Jan. 4.
Fourth place went to "Mr. Six," a domestic action-thriller that took 128.5 million yuan in the week. The film, which stars famed director Feng Xiaogang, was released on Dec. 24.
Rounding out the top five was "Mojin: The Lost Legend," a domestic action-fantasy, with 82.7 million yuan. It opened on Dec. 18.
