Beijing will build more charging posts for electric cars in 2016, an official with the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission said.
Beijing already has about 5,000 charging posts, and it will build another 5,000 this year, said Zhang Guanglian, deputy director of the commission.
Through web applications, electric car drivers will be able to check the location and availability of charging facilities and make payments, he said.
By the end of 2015, Beijing had built 5,008 public charging posts and 12,000 private ones. The number of electric cars in the Chinese capital has reached 35,800, about 23,300 more than the previous year.
Locations within the Sixth Ring Road of Beijing are no more than five kilometers from a charging post, said Zhang.
