A Shanghai woman got a lift in spirits when she used a car-hailing app late one evening only to have a city bus come and pick her up.
The woman, surnamed Chen, said she was doubtful at first when the SUV driver she hired using app Dida Pinche to meet her at Shanghai Railway Station earlier this month arrived behind the wheel of an empty city bus.
The city bus driver, who moonlights as a cabbie through the app, quickly explained he came straight from work so as not to keep her waiting in the cold.
"My own car was parked [far away], so I came after my last route because I didn't have time," said the driver.
Chen said her doubt turned to excitement as she boarded the bus and found it to be a quick and comfortable trip.
A bus company spokesman told media that although the driver was definitely in violation of rules such abuses are "usually difficult to monitor."
An employee at Dida Pinche warned passengers to report drivers operating vehicles that do not match the description provided in the app.
