A newly constructed Court House, entirely funded by the Chinese government at a total cost of 20 million U.S. dollars, was on Tuesday handed over to Guinea Bissau.

The ceremony was presided over by Guinea Bissau President Jose Mario Vaz, in the presence of diplomats accredited to Bissau as well as other government officials.

During the occasion, Vaz hailed the Chinese cooperation, terming China as "an eternal partner of Guinea Bissau, who is always on the side of our people."

"This new Court House is a source of national pride," Infrastructure Minister Antonio Cruz Da Almeida said.

The construction work took 16 months, which is less the period that had been envisioned, and it was carried out by a Chinese firm, Jiangsu Jiangdu Construction Group Co.

The new Court House will host four key judicial institutions; the Supreme Court, Revenue Court, the Public Prosecutor and Administrative Court.

The Chinese government has in the past funded the entire construction of Guinea Bissau's Government Palace, the rehabilitation of the Palace of the Republic, the National Assembly, the military hospital and the National Health School.
