Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng will take on the Indian champions Mohun Bagan Athletic Club here next Tuesday in the second round of the 2016 AFC Champions League (ACL) qualifying tournament.
Mohun Bagan beat Tampines Rovers of Singapore 3-1 in the first preliminary round on Wednesday in Kolkata of India.
Forward Jeje Lalpekhlua and Cornel Glen gifted Mohun Bagan a 2-0 lead, while Yasir Hanapi pulled one back for Tampines Rovers two minutes before the end of the first half. Japanese midfielder Yusa Katsumi sealed the win for Mohun Bagan only seven minutes to go.
It is the Indian club's first-ever appearance in the AFC Champions League. The winners between Mohun Bagan and Luneng will play the 2008 ACL runners-up Adelaide United in Australia on Feb. 9, to win a place in Group F of the 2016 AFC Champions League.
