Toshiba on Thursday started recalling 1,090 laptop batteries in China due to fire risk.
The affected batteries were imported from Japan and were manufactured between May 2011 and April 2014, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on Thursday.
According to Toshiba, iron, which is an improper material, fell into the battery cores during manufacturing. The batteries may short-circuit and overheat, with potential risk of causing fire.
Toshiba will change the batteries free of charge.
