A former senior political advisor in northeast China's Liaoning Province stood trial Wednesday on bribery charges.

Harbin City Intermediate People's Court in Heilongjiang Province heard the case of Chen Tiexin, former vice chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

From 2008 to 2013, Chen took bribes of cash and goods worth a total amount of 23.7 million yuan (3.6 million U.S. dollars) when he was secretary of Chaoyang City Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He had helped companies or individuals that offered the bribes with construction projects, bank loans and promotions. Chen admitted the charges and confessed in court.

Chen was expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office in October 2014 following an internal Party investigation, before the Harbin City People's Procuratorate filed the lawsuit against him.

The verdict will be announced at a later date.
