These cute cartoon characters are popular backstage as well as on-stage. But bringing joy to so many people is not an easy job.
"There's very little room inside the costume, and it's very heavy. And I have to dance in it, so it's very challenging. I practice a lot, remember every position. There's no room for error," said Li Linbao, performer.
This program features more than 40 classic Chinese cartoon characters, singing and dancing. It took three months to design and rehearse, and was one of the earliest shows to make it into the final lineup.
"You can find the earliest Chinese cartoon characters, dating back to the '80s, on the gala stage. And also the contemporary ones. They are all gathered here for one purpose: to bring joy and happiness to the audience. It'll be a very interactive program," said Zou Wei, director of Song & Dance Programs.
The annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala will air live on the evening of February 7, Chinese New Year's Eve.
