Eight people died and nine others were injured when fireworks materials being cleared from a deserted workshop in southwest China's Guizhou Province exploded on Friday.
The explosion happened at around 4:30 p.m. in a facility formerly used by Xingxin Firework Plant in Machang Township near the provincial capital Guiyang, a local government official said on condition of anonymity.
The official said workers from local work safety authorities were demolishing the leftover raw material when the blast happened.
The injured workers are being treated at a local hospital and an investigation had been launched.
