A 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 9:10 p.m. Thursday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of 8 km, was monitored at 43.55 degrees north latitude and 82.55 degrees east longitude. It is located in the region's Xinyuan County, the center said in a statement.
