A district committee of the Party in Beijing said Monday it would punish a Chinese property tycoon following his constant online posts of "illegal" information.
The Xicheng District Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a notice via its official Sina Weibo account, vowing to impose serious punishment on Ren Zhiqiang in accordance with Party rules on sanctions for those who violate the Party code of conduct.
Ren, who had more than 37 million followers on his Sina Weibo account, ignited his latest controversy after openly criticizing President Xi Jinping's emphasis on Party leadership in Party-run media.
The committee accused Ren of continuously posting illegal information and wrong opinions inconsistent with the policies of the Party.
His remarks have led to a vicious impact and severely tarnished the Party's image, according to the notice.
He launched his latest tirade on February 19, writing on Weibo that the people will be forgotten when all the media follow the Party and do not represent the people's interests. State media harshly criticized his comments for violating Party rules and principles and for "betraying" his vows to the Party.
