The United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNTWO) on Tuesday announced it would along with China jointly organize the first world conference on tourism for development in Beijing between May 18 and 21 this year.
"Tourism is one of the most dynamic economic sectors, with significant global reach, and as such can make an important contribution to the achievement of the SDGs, particularly in the areas of job creation, sustainable consumption and production and the preservation of natural resources," said UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai.
UNWTO said a high-level segment of the conference would look at how tourism can do more to aid the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as creating jobs, promoting culture and advocating sustainable consumption.
A session on tourism for poverty reduction will look how all sectors can work to help those living in the margins of society, especially young people and women.
